Chris and Kirsty Catalano are excited to announce their new restaurant, Catalano Family Kitchen. Bringing their family kitchen to your plate. Their family history runs deep in the Perth hospitality scene.
Chris’ passion for Italian cooking and bringing family and friends together started from as young as Chris can remember, watching and helping his Nonno and Nonna in the kitchen cooking the Catalano family recipes. Chris’ late Nonno Pasquale and Nonna Rosa Maria purchased a property in Victoria Park in the 1960’s and opened Don’s Pizza Bar, which the Catalano family ran successfully right through until the late 80’s.
It was at this time that Chris’ mother Liz & father Domenic purchased their own business, The Lake Street Cafe in Northbridge. Chris basically lived at his family's business every day after school and on weekends, watching and learning. As Chris got older, he realised this was something he wanted to pursue following in his dad, mum, nonno & nonnas footsteps. The passion for food was ignited and as the years went on, this is where Chris’ official hospitality career began.
In 2004 the Catalano family went back to their roots, still owning the original building where it all started in 1967. Chris and one of his siblings stayed awake until the early hours one morning creating the original recipes you see today. Domenic opened Catalanos Cafe in Victoria Park. With Chris at the helm in the kitchen every night producing the Catalano family recipes for everyone to enjoy, until Domenic retired in 2016.
In 2016 Chris and Kirsty both met, and each realised they shared the same passion for hospitality. Kirsty has been working in the hospitality industry for over 20 years and the passion she has for working in restaurants is clear, she thrives on it. Nothing beats working in a fast-paced environment knowing that your customers are leaving with having had exceptional customer service, a few laughs and full bellies.
In 2017 Chris and Kirsty started working at Chris’ sibling's restaurant in Baldivis. Chris worked as Head Chef in the kitchen at night and Kirsty managed front of house at night for the next 5 years. During this time Chris and Kirsty got married and shortly after both realised, they would like to pursue their very own dream, of having their own restaurant with their children.
To us nothing is more satisfying than hosting our family and friends in our own “Catalano Family Kitchen” making everyone feel like they are at home, enjoying great food and great company. Thus, creating the name for our future restaurant. This is the atmosphere we want to create for our customers. We want you to feel like you’re eating in our home.
Chris and Kirsty Catalano are proud to open their own restaurant on Beaufort Street in Highgate. They’re looking forward to sharing Chris’ family recipes and welcoming you into their family kitchen. Their family recipe for success is based on exceptionally great customer service, value for money & a relaxing atmosphere
Chris & Kirsty Catalano are the owners of Catalano Family Kitchen on Beaufort Street in Highgate. You'll see us two daily in the restaurant as we're both hands on owners. We work as a team with our employees on a daily basis, ensuring the smooth running of our family business. There is a lot of behind the scenes when it comes to owning a restaurant. From answering emails and phone calls, ordering stock and building relationships with our suppliers, to training staff with our policies and procedures. We love welcoming new customers and seeing regular faces each week. We strive to learn from each other and any feedback we receive, good or bad we take on board. We're only human. Looking forward to seeing you all when you visit.
Lily & Denikah are our two restaurant managers here at Catalano’s on Beaufort Street. They make sure each day runs as smoothly as possible and go above and beyond to make sure our customers have a memorable dining experience, each and every visit!
Denikah, our eldest daughter is 19 years old and has been working here since we opened in October last year. Even earlier to help get the restaurant ready for our opening day. Denikah is studying for her Diploma in Building Design at Tafe this year and enjoys reading in her spare time. Denikah loves seeing her regular customers and meeting new ones.
Lily, is 18 years old and has been working with us since January. Lily is studying toxicology and forensic biology at Uni and enjoys playing Netball outside of work in her down time. Lily enjoys the friendly banter at work with her team and enjoys seeing happy customers.
Even though both of our managers are young, they are both so incredibly mature for their ages. Our day to day here wouldn’t run as smoothly as it does, without these two and we appreciate them both so much. It’s a hard job to be on top of everything all at once and guide the rest of the team to be at their best and make sure our customers have a fantastic time, but Denikah and Lily do this with the biggest of smiles on their faces and a fantastic attitude!
So next time you’re in, make sure you say hi to Denikah and Lily if they don’t beat you to it!
Jeremy is no stranger to us both and has been working on and off with Chris over the years. He started off as an apprentice chef at the Australian Airforce and stayed there for 9 years learning and perfecting his trade. He has worked all around Perth during his career as a Chef. Parliament House, the Hilton, Fusions and FIFO to name a few. In 2006 he started at Vic Park where he worked alongside Chris for 12 years, learning all of the family recipes. Sadly Catalano’s in Vic Park is no longer in the Catalano family at all.
Fast forward to 2024 and Jeremy has joined us here at Catalano Family Kitchen on Beaufort street. We love that Jeremy has the freedom to express his creativity here and do so with our full support. He can also pass his knowledge on to each member of our kitchen team. Jeremy’s approach to having a great workplace atmosphere is refreshing. Keeping the kitchen on their toes when needed, but having a few laughs along the way.
We couldn’t be happier that Jeremy is back with us and are looking forward to what the future holds!
